24 Sep Tiger Mania is back!
What a better way to finish the PGA Tour season than with a tournament like the Tour Championship at East Lake Golf Club outside Atlanta in Georgia. The stage was set for an amazing finish as pros like Justin Rose, the World #1; Bryson DeChambeau, who had won the first two playoff events; Dustin Johnson, former number 1 who has amazed everyone all year with his gifts; 26 other golfers who have fought their way all season to be in the final 30 in the Fed Ex Cup standings…but don’t forget about Tiger Woods!
He has brought himself back from a back injury and multiple surgeries to repair it after sinking to 1199th in the World last December. He made some impressive jumps this season and made us, as longtime fans of golf, all remember the days when he dominated the golf world. Also, showing our children, glimpses of his greatness. The runner-up finish in March at the Valspar; the 5th right after that at the Arnold Palmer; 11th at the Players; he missed the cut at the US Open, but then a 4th at Quicken, 6th at the Open and another 6th at the BMW. This was all topped off by the runner-up finish at the PGA Championship at Bellerive.
We all knew a win was close by, and his game had gotten better every week. The 6th at the BMW saw a huge climb heading into the Tour Championship, an event he had won twice already. He put himself in position on Thursday just a stroke off the lead, then after Friday never looked back. He held the lead by 5 strokes at one point and was looking like he may even take the Fed Ex Cup in 2018. In the end, the World #1 Justin Rose went home with the Fed Ex but that left Tiger with the Tour Championship trophy for his 80th career win and only 2 behind Sam Snead for the all-time crown!
We can look back on this as the official comeback capper for Tiger Woods. He now sits at 13th in the world after this week and puts himself into a great position heading into the Ryder Cup this Autumn. You might all remember at the last Ryder Cup Tiger was designated the role of Vice-Captain acted more as a cheerleader for the squad. After seeing the crowds behind him coming up the 18th at East Lake (see photo–courtesy of the Sporting News) it can only be imagined how it will be at Le Golf National this weekend.
Come to watch the Ryder Cup this weekend before or after a round of golf at Furry Creek. The Sea to Sky Restaurant will have it on the flatscreens, so join the mayhem. Tee times are still available, so be sure to book yours now!
We can all hop back on the Tiger train because it has finally arrived. He is back and so is Tiger Mania in the Golf World!
